This is a long-awaited result of a 2006 federal court case ruling in which major tobacco companies were found\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tobaccofreekids.org\/what-we-do\/industry-watch\/doj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.tobaccofreekids.org\/what-we-do\/industry-watch\/doj&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1702751232435000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3I9dOxkkZvog50qYxVat33\">guilty of racketeering<\/a>\u00a0for deliberately misleading the public about the health risks of smoking and secondhand smoke and the addictive nature of their products.
